Tight On Time? Zumba At Home!

Let your body take the lead and put your mind to rest for a few minutes! 

I’ll be the first to admit that a few weeks ago I may not have even clicked on this video myself but that’s changed. I have found the power within to put on my sneakers and get a good workout in even if it’s only for 30 minutes a day. Getting started will be the hardest part but once you do, it will feel amazing! Any workout is better than none so get up and get going!

Zumba may seem hard or frustrating at first, but keep going. It is so much fun and really a great workout. Get connected  with Zumba! These ladies committed and found results from Zumba in no time. Zumba is all over the world, and is offered in all types of ways. You can attend a class at your local gym, find videos on the internet, and they even have DVDs you can buy! There are so many different routines that go along with Zumba which makes it entertaining and something new to try each time.

Grab a friend or family member and have them Zumba with you! Having someone with you is a great form of motivation. You can keep each other at a fair pace and it will make the workout that much more enjoyable. Sometimes it is easier to focus on what someone else is doing instead of what you’re doing while working out. It doesn’t cause as much stress and leaves room for conversation after a successful workout.

I try to do a small workout each day and working out at home makes this possible. It’s FREE and can be done in the time I would usually take to nap, have a snack or watch TV in between my busy schedule. Of course some days are more challenging than others but making time is so important for a fitness journey. Time management is key! Try to stay organized and stick with a daily plan so that you can get everything accomplished by a reasonable hour. Allowing yourself to have “me” time and unwind with a warm bath before bed.

Don’t forget how hard it is to accomplish goals and change YOU for the better. Just believe and work at it everyday. In due time, you will realize it was all worth it!

Find Your Power At The Superhero 5K!

I have heard nothing but good things about 5K races! I participated in The Color Run once but unfortunately I had a sprained ankle at the time and I couldn’t run as much as I’d hoped. Although, I did feel the rush of excitement. Running can be such an exhilarating feeling if you put your mind to it. It is one of those things you just have to do and not stop until you hit the finish line! I mean, I am no expert but I am pretty excited to give this a try!

The Superhero 5K Run looks like a ton of fun. Who wouldn’t want to run through a zoo! I have decided to participate in this run with a few friends of mine who are supporting me as much as possible while I change my ways for the better. I have never been a runner but that is about to change!

I know that the price will throw some of you off but just think… you have to pay to get into the Philadelphia Zoo anyway, so why not run a race and then spend a day with the animals! It should bring such a feeling of success and accomplishment that will make you feel that much better for the rest of the day!

The 5K track is ran within the zoo. You will get to see all the animals as you run/walk throughout the entire zoo! The best part is that after the race, you will have the opportunity to walk around the zoo at your own pace and enjoy the day with your friends and family. The rush of happy children and their parents should brighten anyones day. I know that when I see someone else smile, it brings a smile to my face and sometimes I don’t even realize it! Take a chance, and try something different it will be worth it!

Not only is running a race a good feeling, but it is an even better feeling to know that you are helping kids in need. CASA is an association built to help children who may be or may have been abused and or neglected. This volunteer program is filled with people who tend to change the lives of children in need in any ways possible. 

Step outside of your comfort zone and give this race a try! You can dress up, get your face painted and enjoy a fun filled day with the people around you.

I have to say that today was a great day. Dispite the weather, my friends and I had a great time participating in the Superhero 5K at the Philadelphia Zoo. Waking up early was totally worth every step of the way! If you asked me a year ago to run a 5K I probably would have laughed it off, but after trying my hardest today I realized that I can’t wait to do this again. What an experience that ill never forget.

 

 

Take control of Pillow Time

Sleep can cost you precious time if not done correctly. It is SO important to make sure you get enough sleep at night. It will not only effect your mood the next day, but the way you view yourself and those around you. Too many people view sleep as a luxury, rather than a necessity. It is key to make time for sleep. You may need to write it into your planner, or set an alarm on your phone each night but stick to it because it should be that important to you!

Sleep is also free. You can sleep anytime, anywhere and never have to pay a dime! How is something so great free you ask? Because it is a choice and choices are free if you choose wisely!

I don’t know about you, but these are not things that I think about on a daily basis. Going to sleep after finishing a paper at midnight or coming in from a house party around 2 am have just become normal to us college students. Well it is time for a change! Let your body be the judge of when it is time to turn out the lights and get a good nights rest.

Sleep can affect everyone differently, which makes it so important to understand why. Your body needs sleep to function property day in and day out. Getting six to eight hours of sleep every night can be done, but good sleep is hard to come by. For example, when you find yourself coming down with a cold, SLEEP is the best cure. It will keep your energy levels where they should be and allow for you to feel better faster. Allow yourself to sleep when you’re tired, it will always work out in your favor.

Sleep also has a healthy balance in your everyday life. People who do not get enough sleep tend to lack in simple everyday tasks. They may feel hungrier throughout the day due to the sleep they did not receive the night before and it will sometimes show in their emotions or behaviors the next day. I can not stress enough how much I love sleep, but I to find myself staying up late and waking up early, which means I very rarely meet my needed hours of sleep. Don’t let your mind win you over, shut it down and take charge of pillow time no matter how hard it may be sometimes.

Believe it or not TECHNOLOGY affects your sleep. Allowing yourself to fall asleep with the TV on or scrolling through Facebook on your phone or tablet is one of the worst things you could do! Turn them off an hour before your head hits the pillow. Crazy I know, but it will change the way you sleep immensely. Instead, listen to music or read the next chapter in your favorite book before closing your eyes for the night.

Showering before bedtime can be very beneficial! A warm shower allows for your body to relax and settle down from a long day. Try to make it the last thing you do, before climbing into bed and letting your mind drift off to sleep.

I believe that sleep is one of the most important aspects to truly changing your lifestyle. Let your body tell you when it’s time for bed and try to stay on a schedule the best that you can. Pay more attention to when you fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning so that you can form a daily routine.

Hello there!

My name is Emily and I am on a journey to find a new me! Admitting change is one of the hardest parts when first getting started. I have tried and tried again to change my ways and each and every time I have found myself lasting no longer than a week. I must say it is the worst feeling in the world and I am sick of feeling this way!

Over these next few months I am hoping to set some goals and stick to them! I am looking forward to eating healthier, exercising daily and most importantly feeling better about ME! All while saving a few bucks. As a college student I know how hard it is to save up and the last thing we want to spend our money on is the gym! Luckily for me, I have a free gym on campus as most do, but for those of you who do not have this access there are tons of workouts that can be done in your own living room! I will be posting all kinds of helpful hints to workouts you can do at home to help you get on the right track. What you eat, can completely make or break your results if you are not careful. Yes we all have our cheat days/meals but it is so important to make time for a healthy diet. Recipes that will taste even better than they look will be coming soon to this page for you to try! Lastly, fully committing is the number one focus to this entire journey. Success does not come easy, and it certainly doesn’t happen over night, you have to work for it!

Some specific goals I am aiming for:

  • working out daily for 35-45 minutes
  • eating healthier foods – cooking at home verses eating out
  • drinking less alcohol – not completely cutting it out though

One person who has inspired me the most is my cousin Sarah. She recently took on a new workout plan and has been feeling great ever since. She knows that I have what it takes to feel the same, I just have to get on track and stay there! I will be looking to her every step of the way and will hopefully get the chance to share her success story with all of you!

It takes time to feel content with yourself and the new workouts you are trying but I can not enforce enough how important it is to stay focused! Throughout this journey, I will be posting pictures of myself improving in the gym, cooking up some recipes and a video of myself and some friends attending a workout class or two to share my own experiences. I know that this is going to be a hard journey but I am ready to take on the challenge and finally change myself for the better!
